5. Ikano Robin Hood Marathon

See out September and run your way to marathon glory in the East Midlands. The route will take you through some of the sights, including Wollaton Park and Nottingham Castle. Feel like Robin Hood himself as you sit back and bask in that post-marathon glow like a true legend.

4. Chester Marathon

Not only is the course flat and fast, it essentially doubles up as a running tour. Pass the Chester Cathedral, run by the famous Medieval Rows and take a leap at running a new PB underneath the ancient Roman Walls.

Get away from the crowds and set your sights on this stunning looped course. With a slight field of 300 competitors, the rural roads are yours to own. It’s also a bargain at £20 and offers the excuse for a long weekend away beside the coast.

If views are a race must for you as well as the medal, the Eden Project should exist on your tick list. Any pre-marathon nerves will melt away thanks to the incredible backdrop of Cornish beauty. The fact that every runner gets given a pasty at the finish is also not to be glossed over.

The Dublin Marathon route offers some sights for the memory books alongside a generous dose of charm from the Irish crowds. Run over the River Liffey, past Dublin Zoo and in the grounds of Phoenix Park. After you’ve finished this iconic race, we suggest treating yourself to a pint of Guinness or two. You will be in Ireland, after all.
