The world’s largest overnight running relay series, Ragnar holds epic road and trail events in some of the most breathtaking locations on earth, and they’re coming to the UK this autumn with Reebok Ragnar White Cliffs.
Named after an early 9th century Scandinavian king known for his spirit of adventure, the Ragnar Relay Series has grown from a single relay in Utah, USA to the largest overnight relay series in the nation.
This 23-24 September, teams of 10 or 5 (5 for Ultra teams) will join forces to conquer the 170-mile road relay over two days and one night, fuelled by friendship, camaraderie and true grit.
Starting in the North Downs near Maidstone, the Reebok Ragnar White Cliffs route will lead teams of intrepid runners through some of the most stunning countryside south England has to offer, before culminating along Brighton’s iconic seafront for one almighty after party.
The spirit of adventure
With the help of two vehicles your team of 10 will split into two and run relay-style along pavements, backroads, bike paths, trails and country lanes towards the finish line.
This is a point-to-point race with only one runner hitting the road at a time. Each team member runs three times and individual legs will range between 3 and 8 miles long over varying terrain. Runners will average 17 miles altogether, while ultra teams take on six legs each and can expect to run a marathon in total.
A race of this magnitude on little sleep requires dedicated team members who are prepared to push beyond their own perceived limits, and only the bold will make it across the finish line. But you don’t need to be a seasoned runner to take part – anyone can do a Ragnar, with a little bit of training. Whatever the outcome, a spirit of adventure is required and life-changing experiences are guaranteed.
Race through the night
Teams are expected to take approximately 24-hours to reach the finish line after running through the night and snatching sleep when they can between legs of the journey.
When your last runner approaches the final miles, your entire team will converge and cross the finish line together, where you will then celebrate your epic accomplishment and revel in the glory of becoming a Ragnarian!
The Ragnar movement
What differentiates the Reebok Ragnar Relay from other running events? It's much more than just a race, Ragnar is a movement. Ragnarians are runners keen to fulfil their freedom to roam, explore and follow a free-spirited outdoor adventure with friends.
They traverse beautiful scenery, conquer challenges, and celebrate as a team. They embrace fancy dress, deck out their vans and walk away with kick-ass medals, bragging rights and unforgettable stories of a truly epic adventure!
