Not only is it a taste sensation, peanut butter is jam-packed with protein, healthy fats and oh-so-much more. Just make sure you opt for the additive free version and you’ve essentially got a superfood right there in your kitchen.

Peanut butter improves brain health

As well as being the perfect companion for your tastebuds, peanut butter is good for your brain, too. Peanuts contain heaps of niacin, more formerly known as vitamin B3, which has been shown to improve brain health. According to the UHN, a recent study of 6,000 people found that those with the highest intake of niacin were much less likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. Niacin is also associated with a slower rate of cognitive decline. What more reason do you need to treat yourself to the good stuff? 

Peanut butter will make you strong

Popeye may have opted for spinach, but we're championing this delightful legume in all its glory. Side step your standard turkey breasts and broccoli and embrace the creamy nutty goodness for a tasty hit of protein.

Two tablespoons of peanut butter contain roughly eight grams of muscle-repairing protein and it tastes delicious, too. Blend your favourite butter with some high protein yoghurt, oats, a banana and a few cubes of ice for a delicious post-workout smoothie.

Peanut butter will curb cravings

The days of thinking low-fat is the best option for your body are long gone. Swerve sugar-filled snacks and opt for one of Mother Nature’s finest spreads and stop yourself from snacking on everything in sight. Whether you’re trying to watch your waistline or get more out of your mouthful, peanut butter will help to curb sugary cravings with its low GI index. Peanut butter helps to stabilise your blood sugar levels and insulin, making it the perfect post-run snack. 

Peanut butter is a health food

Not only is this magical spread a good source of magnesium, vitamin B-6, and vitamin E, the unsaturated fats in peanut butter will simultaneously help to promote the circulation of good cholesterol by lowering the levels of bad cholesterol. Win win.

As well as being great for heart health, peanut butter is also an excellent source of potassium. In counteracting the dangers of sodium, potassium can lower the risk of high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease; just make sure your peanut butter of choice isn't laden with salt.
