Event overview: OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO 2017

The 2017 edition of this popular event in Cyprus takes place on Sunday 19 March 2017 and entries for OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO are open.

The 2016 race took place under blue skies in April and welcomed 13,000 runners to the island’s largest sporting event. The race is known for being flat and fast, covering long stretches of straight, traffic-free road, including the spectacular coastal road of greater Limassol. This makes it ideal for first time marathon runners as well as for professional athletes looking to achieve a PB.

Now entering its eleventh year, the OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO is fully accredited by AIMS, the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.

The 26.2 mile route takes runners from the palm tree-lined seafront of Molos, in the centre of Limassol, to the new port, the old harbour and the ancient ruins of the Royal City of Amathus, dating from 1100 BC. It stretches for 21km along the beautiful Mediterranean coastline, reaching a maximum altitude of 18m and providing runners with magnificent views and a refreshing sea breeze. Add pleasant spring temperatures of 9-17°C, and low rainfall in March, and it really is an ideal location to run a strong race.

The OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO weekend will officially start on Saturday 18 March, with the Primetel 5K Corporate Race setting off at 9am and the 1K Kids Race at 11am. The Primetel 5K Corporate Race was the most popular race at the 2016 event, offering businesses a unique team building opportunity as well as a great chance to encourage fitness in the work place. For 2017 the Corporate Race will enjoy a new coastal route along Limassol’s stunning seafront.

Sunday 19th March will then play host to the AIMS-accredited OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO, the Half Marathon, the Petrolina 10K Energy Race and the 5K City Race, all of which set off at 7am.

A range of discounts and packages are available to encourage running clubs to enter OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO. With a 50% discount on the race registration fee and exclusive group packages that include accommodation and race day support, Cyprus’ largest sporting event is a highly attractive option for running clubs wishing to race overseas while enjoying a fantastic weekend away. The packages can be booked for any length of stay and are designed to provide a hassle-free and high-quality race experience for athletes and their families.
